Clean the World

The Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel takes pride in being the first Hotel in Philadelphia to partner with the Clean the World organization, a non-profit that distributes recycled soap products, along with appropriate educational materials, to impoverished countries worldwide, and to domestic homeless shelters.

Impoverished people around the world die every day from acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease because they have no soap. The death toll is staggering. Each year more than five million lives are lost to these diseases with the majority of deaths being among children less than five years old. Studies have shown that simple hand washing substantially reduces the spread of these diseases.

The Sheraton University City, along with Hotel partners such as the Disney Resort properties and Harrah's Resorts, have committed to simple soap recycling efforts to make a difference, reducing already overflowing landfills and saving lives.  You can read more about this wonderful organization at www.cleantheworld.org

For 2011, the hotel recycled 645 lbs of soap and 557 lbs of the bottled amenities from the guest rooms. Thanks to the efforts of our hotel team members, 5020 bars of soap will be distributed to children and families worldwide!!! Thank you to all who help contribute in making a difference!

Make a Green Choice

Help us conserve natural resources! The Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel is proudly giving you the opportunity to "Make A Green Choice" by allowing you the option to conserve water, electricity, gas and chemicals. You can do so by participating in the Make A Green Choice program and forgoing your housekeeping for the day.

In exchange for helping us conserve our natural resources, we'll reward you with $5 to use in our restaurant, Sang Kee Noodle House, or 500 SPG Starpoints for each night you participate.  To take advantage of this exclusive offer, complete the information below with your current reservation information and we will update your reservation with your participation in the program.

Recycling

The Sheraton now offers a clear bin in our main lobby to recycle used batteries.  Help support our on-going green initiatives by dropping your used batteries in the bin to ensure that they do not end up in a landfill.  eForce Recycling of Philadelphia has partnered with the Sheraton to help us and our guests reduce our carbon footprint on the environment.

The Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel has "adopted" the 18th Police District Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and the Alzheimer’s Association of the Delaware Valley organizations. We look forward to adding many more initiatives to our Corporate Responsibility strategy in the years to come.


Each year, in partnership with the 18th Police District, the hotel collects school supplies for children in the local West Philadelphia Community; holds a food drive for families in the local elementary school during the Thanksgiving Holiday; and donates food and volunteers for the Police District’s Annual Christmas Party with Santa for local school children.


Our hotel is also a proud partner and raises funds for childhood cancer by supporting the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Organization with an annual fundraiser in June.


Many hotel team members walk to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association of Delaware Valley’s Annual Memory Walk. This past September was our 6th year of participation.  The 2011 Walk to END Alzheimer's took place at Citizen's Bank Park.  It was a beautiful and enjoyable day for all!
